EBIB operates within the structure of the Polish Librarians Association – a non-profit and non-government organisation. Contributions made to EBIB can be deducted from your taxes as a donation for educational or cultural purposes.

EBIB is the only information service for librarians and information specialists in Poland. In 1999, in the first year of its operations, it was visited by over 10 thousand individuals. In 2000, over 26 thousand persons viewed the service website while, nowadays, every month, over 50 thousand entries are made to our website. The popularity of EBIB is growing dynamically.

In addition to supplying current information, providing access to on-line catalogues and databases distributed around the country, we also publish the first Polish full-text electronic journal for library and information science professionals. Since not long ago, we have also been developing additional tasks, such as:

• organising and coordinating library co-operation activities on a national scale;
• mediating in co-operative activities on an international scale;
• developing new information services requested by librarians;
• coordinating programmes and organising conferences.

Libraries around the world are recognised as an important link in the process of information transmission. They act as centres of organised dissemination of professional information. If we consider the financial value of information, it could be forecasted that the status of libraries and librarians will grow considerably fast given the improved working conditions of library staff. EBIB aspires to these ideals and works towards achieving these goals. Over the years, its positive reputation in the library community has been on the rise.

The EBIB team works together with many publishers and editors of journals related to modern media. It participates in building the Information Policy of the Polish government by engaging in the activities of FORUM on the Information Society of the State Committee for Scientific Research, it lobbies for the cause of libraries and library users, interacts with the decision-makers in regards to making the most of libraries in building the Information Society, develops relations with librarians around the world in order to implement innovative solutions in Poland.
