On the 26th of December 2006, the National Library presented part of Zbigniew Herbert's archives. Zbigniew Herbert is one of Poland's most important contemporary poets and essayists. At present the Archives is closed for conservation works.

The Archive contains materials illustrating various compositions of Zbigniew Herbert as well as a precise and well kept workshop of the author. Same of the 3.000 autographs and manuscripts have been presented for the first time. Also during the exhibition there were drafts of poems and essays containing drawings which served Herbert as short recordings of impressions from various journeys, especially to Mediterranean Sea, which were so important to his writings.

In December of 2006 Katarzyna Herbertowa, the poet's wife, and Halina Herbert-Żebrowska, the poet's sister, transferred heritage of Zbigniew Herbert works to the National Library in Warsaw. The Archives contain works from 1948 to 1998 which includes the whole of Herbert's artistic productive period.
