A short analysis of the function of Polish libraries.
For the last couple of years, the members of Polish library environment
have been working on issues related to the standardisation of
research libraries.
Since 2001, a special working group has been conducting research on the
issues of standards for Polish academic libraries.
In 2003, we invited all libraries to register with the database
administrator and to get acquainted with the 2002 questionnaire we had
prepared earlier. We acted on the assumption that these activities
would provide us with the material for future analyses. We
have reached our goal; almost 50 libraries registered, and filled out
the questionnaire which we later simplified and it and made it more
comprehensive.
We have also started the process of standardisation of data which
facilitated the proper analyses. These analyses will, at a
later stage, serve library directors as patterns for the
evaluation of their respective libraries and comparisons with average
results of other types of libraries: (university, technical, public,
academic and private libraries).
