Bożena Michalska

Editor-in-Chief

Place of employment: Main Library of the Copernicus University in Torun (manager of the information section).
mailto:b.michalska@bu.uni.torun.pl

Professional characteristics: I am a total optimist, however, the picture on the side does not necessarily represent it. I have been working for the university library since 1982. I graduated from the department of Polish philology of the University of Wroclaw. My original plan was to become a journalist and I have accomplished that goal in a way. I have busied myself with editing web pages in my place of work and those of EBIB.
My adventure with the Internet started in 1993 and since that time I have been employing this medium for increasing the quality of my work and other tasks. In my opinion, any decent science centre should have a network on its premises.
I hope that EBIB in time will become a lively, bouncy, democratic and professional library forum and will contribute greatly in making a positive change in Polish librarianship.
In my spare time, I volunteer my time in many professional associations. I have a big family: a husband, three great kids and two cats. We live in Torun, in close proximity of a beautiful stretch of forest. I am interested in jazz, literature, political and economical issues, I do sports - biking and swimming.

Place of employment: Main Library and Centre for Technical/Scientific Information of the Wroclaw Polytechnic.
mailto:Komperda@bg.pwr.wroc.pl

Professional characteristics: I graduated from the Institute of Library Science and Scientific Information of the University of Wroclaw in 1981. (specialisation - editing). Immediately after graduating I started working for the Main Library of the Wroclaw Polytechnic. Throughout the years, I have gained experience in many aspects of computer science. I have been with EBIB since its first days and I am its great enthusiast. It is my opinion that there should be no libraries without access to Internet.
Being a great fan of the Internet, I use it for researching information in all areas - education, business, medicine, etc. Since 1995, I have been actively trying to involve/interest others with Internet by conducting all kinds of courses/meetings. I have given instruction in this field to librarians, ecologists, scientists, administrative staff.
In my private time I enjoy photography, horseriding, travel. If it were not for the constant pre-occupation with work, I would have surely devoted more time to developing other interests. Luckily, my two great children cheerfully endure their mother's lack of time and are a great joy and support.
