Library 2.0. The possibilities of Web 2.0 practical applications in Polish libraries.

In the 21st century, the library world is changing rapidly. Using "the New Media" and new technologies is becoming an indispensable element of communication between the librarian and the user. The author of the article described Web 2.0 and its influence on the goals and tasks of a traditional library. He characterized a culture-forming role of the Internet and the users in the creation of the content and developing new standards in functioning Library 2.0.

Transformative sharing with instant messaging, wikis, interactive maps, and flickr.

Smart librarians have always valued their relationships with users and other librarians. The creative force of those relationships is empowered via Web-based social networking, collaboration, and sharing. At Stony Brook University Health Sciences Library in New York, students, faculty, clinicians, and residents expect the latest refinements in technology to use and share information. To meet the ever-changing needs of the users at Stony Brook University Health Sciences Library, the author relates how he developed an instant messaging reference service, implemented an interactive directions map, created a Flickr image bank, and built a wiki intranet for the library.

In this short article the author shares his experiences of using instant messengers, especially popular in Polish realities. The author describes the variety of problems, which appeared while implementing this kind of software in his library: the advantages - it brought as well as changes - it made.

Not only chatting, let's talk about instant messaging.

The author deliberates over the libraries' cautious attitude towards the usage of instant messengers. She points at the advantages of such way of communication and indicates its rising popularity. The article takes the form of an appeal calling for a wilder usage of such applications by libraries and convinces to broaden their contact with readers as well as shows the benefits for the institutions such as modernity.

SKYPE - a quick and comfortable communication in a modern library.

This short article shows the outline of the development of instant messengers, concentrating at the same time on the Skype program and its changing role. The author shares her experiences from the implementation of this program in her library.

YouTube - the revolution in the Internet.

The article presents YouTube - an Internet service allowing the publication of video clips, mini-films or presentations; describing also the way YouTube was created and how it works. The author pays the readers' attention to a social aspect of this service - taking the level of the popularity into account we can talk about "YouTube society". YouTube became also a tool of promotion and image creation. TV stations noticed the YouTube service potential and started to introduce this way of publishing their own materials, mainly news. The article shows the usage of this service in the society of librarians in the world as well.
