Art. 1: Lidia Derfert-Wolf,
Electronic question-answer reference services - world trends and experiences.

The article presents various types of electronic (virtual, digital) reference services offered by libraries around the world, from the simplest ones e.g. e-mail to most advanced services such as interactive ones based on chat technology. The author describes the operation of different applications. Special attention has been paid to Web contact center software. Some examples of international and regional collaborative live reference services have been presented. Standards, guidelines and models of the introduction of virtual reference services (e.g. those of IFLA and ALA) are also reviewed. Basing on literature review, the article presents some statistical data, results of a survey of digital reference services and some issues mentioned by practitioners.

Libraries of state-funded vocational high schools - a new element of the national network.

In the academic year 2005/2006 a questionnaire was mailed to libraries of 26 state higher vocational schools to inquire into their organizational structure, accessibility to users, library collections, purchasing policy, infrastructure, automation, readers, personnel, costs and cooperation with other libraries. Completed questionnaires from 19 libraries have been collected back. Results of the survey give overall insight into the current condition of state vocational high school libraries in Poland. These results are discusses in the paper. After seven years since the first schools of this type were opened, the overall state of their libraries is satisfactory. Their infrastructure is being constantly improved, library collections gradually increase and 18 out of 19 libraries have already implemented automated library systems.

Bibliography of academic research staff - traditional and modern methods of data.

The paper discusses problems related to the creation and providing access to the bibliography of scientific curriculum of the university researchers. It points out the need of documentation and effective distribution of information about the achievements of the academic community. The history, present-day and future of university bibliography (both as a printed publication and an electronic database) has been presented. The role of this kind of bibliography as a valuable research tool has been stressed.

Library Marathon - festivals of science at the Library of Wrocław University of Technology

The history of festivals of science organized at the Main Library of the Wrocław University of Technology as a part of the Lower Silesian Festival of Science. The paper discusses how the form of performances has been changed to meet the needs of the young students visiting the event. Workshop has been proposed as the best form of presentation of the new possibilities to use modern information resources via the Internet.

"Scientific and professional Polish e-journals" database - the degree of research

The article presents "Scientific and professional Polish e-journals" database which contains information only about e-journals that provide at their websites tables of contents, abstract or full-texts. The criteria of journals selections, database resources, record structure and technical details regarding database construction (in MS Access) and making available in the Internet are described. All database searching options are shown.
