The library as perceived by Wroclaw's young population.

The creation of modern library network providing fast access to information. The participation of City Public Library in Wrocław in the competition for a leading position among libraries for the young - as a further step in the process of the library transformation. Information about library frequency use by the youth (students - 13-35 years of age) and others. Research results regarding the importance of certain library features: space, choice of material, free access, etc. Research pertaining to the projected use of the new library.

The application of promotional and informational publishing as element of PR at libraries. The principles of creation of periodicals, brochures, annual reports and information leaflets. An update on informatization legislation process. The critique on the choice of material placed at the Polish Internet Library. Problems with the Internet at small-town libraries - negative influence of the Polish Telecommunication Company.

The presentation of PR process and its various aspects: PR as tool influencing the environment, PR as a stepping stone towards firm's better reputation, PR as a management tool between an organization and its environment. Library web pages as elements of PR - the principles and methods of creation.

Uniformization - de lege curiosum.

The call for changes in Polish legislation stemming from Poland's accessing the UE. The implementation of legislation assuring protection of intellectual property in full conformity to EU standards. The speculation whether the norms are the product of an intellectual property law or of official documents.

Away with myths.

The presentation of certain myths regarding the library work - e.g .the library work is peaceful and quiet, sometimes downright dull; a library is a place where one borrows books; library is a conservative institution; library staff's main role is to sort the books. PR's role in disposing of above-mentioned myths.

PR and library image.

Various definitions of PR. The creation of an institution's best image in the eyes of library users (external image) and, respectively, in the eyes of the staff (internal image). The amalgamation of process' creation with the management process of library PR. Four stages of PR build-up strategy were discussed: the analysis of the initial situation, the planning of PR, the implementation of programs, the evaluation of the process of implementation. The presentation of research results regarding the marketing orientation of public libraries conducted by the Institute of Librarianship and Scientific Information of theUniversity of Silesia.

PR at non-profit institutions

The use of PR at libraries as a build-up to the expected image. The relationship with the library users and promoting the idea of library mission and readership. The presentation of successive stages of image build-up: defining goals, targets and tools (press information, special events, Internet, library bulletins).
