Digitalisation: do we have a strategy?
The author talks about the need for digitalisation of library collections in a carefully planned and organised manner. Even though librarians recognise the need for digitalisation, currently they cannot seem to come to a mutual understanding on completing digitalisation initiatives. A national strategy of digitalisation, that is, the stages of digitalising national collections, and institutions to carry out the projects should be considered.

Safeguarding the Historic Resources of the Future: Digital Archiving at the Dutch National Library.
The article discusses the activity of the Depository Library of Dutch Publications, which maintains a mission of ensuring long-term access to information. The Library cooperates with IBM. Technical, economic and cultural aspects, which influence archiving collections are discussed. Research and experiments conducted by the Library, as well as, the impact of digital archiving on the organisation of acquisitions processes are also examined.

From WorldCat to American Memory: the fruits of American cooperation.
The article reviews the history of two of the most formidable ventures, the American Memory Historical Collections (AMHC) and OCLC, which developed on the idea of library cooperation. The biggest accomplishments of these institutions are OCLC's WorldCat, the largest bibliographic database, and American Memory, the largest digital library.

The article recalls recovery efforts undertaken in Czech libraries following the flood of 2002. The equipment, means, methods of drying the collections and the time needed to complete the recovery stages are specified.
