Business information at smaller enterprises - and changes on the market of information services

The use of business information in SME was discussed, based on data analysis provided by the survey conducted at 105 small and medium-size enterprises located in Mazowieckie Province. The results show the need for business information at these companies in order to modernise production, gain new markets and to obtain both financial and legal support. However, only 12% of SME perceive it as satisfactory. The article lists institutions providing information about services to companies of the SME sector, by means of publishing catalogues, directories and reference books. There are also trade fairs, exibitions, trainings and advisory services. The demand for business information depends on the economic situation of a given company.

Business information is provided by various sources: databases, special TV spots and features, books, periodicals, as well as the Internet and libraries. The processing of information and transforming it into knowledge, thereby creating and using it as an important and useful management tool, requires professionalism and new information infrastructure. The key issue of the decision-making process is the delivery of custom made and verified information to the clientele, along with comprehensive advice and consultations.

The development of info-search tools in INFOR databases.

This article discusses the search tools, as described at INFOR magazine, that were employed in customer relations in the years 1997-2002. This regards mostly the information required for the implementation of the goals of managers accountants and human resources staff (those subscribing to INFOR), however, people who read INFOR only sporadically, may benefit just as well.

The review of Internet information databases - as shown on the example of Internet Securities.

This article is dedicated to the review of the Polish and English language Internet databases. Internet Securities is being discussed in detail, as the author considers it the best of the accessible databases.

The author is an employee of the Department of Economic Information of the Pomeranian Library of Szczecin. In his article, the author discusses the history and the origins of the Centre, its goals and accomplishments.

Internal economic intelligence.

Economic intelligence consists of the search and analysis of information required in the decision-making process. In his article, the author attempts at answering questions regarding the idea of economic intelligence:

  • was it created by consultants, so that they would be later hired by companies in an advisory capacity?
  • how is economic intelligence different from getting information from specialist literature?
  • what is the difference between the economic intelligence and project analysis produced by marketing departments?
The article also discusses the intelligence and coordination aspects of the issue, as well as ways of data collection, processing and storing.

The architecture of information. New direction of scientific information development.

The explosion of information resulted in increased need for setting standards that would integrate areas of expertise related to project, access and management issues. Series of discussions conducted by representatives of various fields led to formulation of methods and procedures pertinent to the process of creation of the so-called architecture of information . The purpose of the article is to present the general outline of this emerging issue, as well as prospects of its placement in the sphere of scientific information.

The information broker - profession with a future or futuristic profession?

The profession known as an information broker has been widely known and recognized for many years now. Unfortunately, it has never emerged as an independent profession in Poland. In her article, the author presents the genesis of the profession, the scope of duties and the principles of activity, as well as an employment prospects for potential information brokers in Poland.
