The function of public libraries and small communities' regulatory
bodies in the development of the information society.
This article discusses the role of public libraries in the life of small
communities. The need and call for change in the way such libraries
function is stressed. According to the author, these libraries should
constantly improve the quality of their operation in order to attract
new users. The most important issue seems to be the participation, at
all stages of development, of the region, reclaiming its cultural
identity (archives on local history, publications on the subject), as
well as cooperation with regional cultural societies.
The author thinks it is imperative that more county libraries come into
existence.

Voivodship regulatory body - the facts versus the ideal
The author points out the tasks and duties of the voivodship
governing/regulatory body. These are as follows: the exchange of
information between the region and the state, and between voivodships
and counties. The author analyses the function of the information
system and stresses out the discrepancy between actual requirements and
the delivery.

The bibliography of works of the region at the Ksiaznica Podlaska in
Bialystok
The authors discuss the cultural, educational and bibliographical
activity of Ksiaznica Podlaska in the region. The "Bibliography of the
Bialystok Region" is of special interest to them. The sources for this
publication, its method, contents, choice of material and its form are
analysed.

The libraries of private universities in Poland - a report
This article presents the operations of the libraries at private
universities as shown in the survey conducted in 1998-2001 by the Money
Managment School in Poznan and based on the participation in conferences
and seminars. Some most dynamically developing libraries of this kind
were listed in the article.

This article discusses the fundraising actions undertaken towards the
establishment of the Centre. The Center's future goals are also

This article presents Monki Public Library's ways of getting children
and young users acquainted with multimedia for the purpose of getting
information.
There are also examples of material the youngsters will be using during
the library informative sessions.
