Contemporary library buildings as presented by LIBER Architecture Group

The article describes activities of the LIBER Architectural Group - an organization whose goal is to aid and share information/expertise pertaining to the construction of new library buildings. The text presents the agenda of the meetings organized by the group in 1996 (Paris), in 1998 (London), in 2000 (Warsaw). The article also presents principles of proper design and construction of library buildings by British architect, Harry Faulkner Brown.

The new building of the University Library of Jerzy Giedroyc in Bialystok

This publication presents the functional project of the new building of the Jerzy Giedroyc University Library in Bialystok. Some changes regarding re-organization of archives, new organizational structure and creation of new functions (e.g. specialized librarian) were mentioned. The idea of open access library was presented, as well as description the Library of Congress' method. The choice of systemizing the archives according to UKD was explained.

The new building of the University Library in Warsaw - the architectural design, the beginnings.

The author discusses all stages of implementation and organization of the University Library in its new setting. The new building's architectural shape and design is being presented, as well as librarians' input in the project. The detailed process of preparing the library's contents for the move which stretched over a few years is presented. The author underlines the most important change -the transition of the library into a multi-functional, open-access institution. The article contains statistical data of the library's first year of operation.

The library of the Papal Theological Academy in Cracow

The article describes the Academy's new building currently under construction. The details of architectural design - size, shape, the "open access" idea, air-conditioning and contractor's data are presented.

The development of the Jagiellonian Library

The article presents how the newly constructed wing of the Jagiellonian Library will be used and connected to the library's main body.

The Main Library of the Cracow Polytechnic - the project's description.

The article's authors present the principles of the project. They focus on the presentation of the form, function and construction of the new library building.
