Librarians' customer service training at the University of Mikolaj Kopernik

This project presents the plan of the customer service training of the library staff. Since the customer-staff relations, in terms of the staff's competency and flexibility, are in great need of improvement, the author proposes the introduction of a systematic schooling geared towards obtaining better results in this field. The plan includes workshops run by public relations specialists, both from the University and private agencies. The project, open to everybody interested in improving the quality of library services in Poland, will be funded by the Unversity and also, in part , by the European Union.

The politics, the money and libraries

The author analyses the generally discouraging condition of Polish libraries within the context of our country's political situation. She also critises the politicians' generally cavalier attitude towards education in Poland. She describes the librarians frustration with seemingly unattainable professional goals, their weak financial situation and their perception of reality. The article, however, ends on an optimistic note pointing out the emergence of new kind of librarianship, with people who care deeply about improving the quality of their work, services and positively influencing others.
