Multimedia phenomenon

The article attempts to explain the multimedia popularity observed in the recent years in various spheres of life. The author describes the criteria of popularity according to her own 'rule of three', i.e. integration, interactivity, use of icons. Integration - a combination of media, interactivity - encouraging the user to actively participating in the multimedia process, the use of icons - transfer of information with the help of pictures and images. Multimedia is probably a transitional stage in the domain of media development; its existence will probably not affect the way humans communicate.

Multimedia education for school librarians

The introduction of information technology to the majority of teaching programs is closely connected with the necessity of continuing professional education for teachers. The creation of educational standards within the scope of application of information technology treated as a separate field is the foundation of the preparation system for teachers. The person responsible for introducing the elements of information education should be the schoolteacher/librarian. The librarians who want to broaden their qualifications can participate at the Post-Diploma Study for Information Technology created at the Institute of Library Science in Cracow.

Can multimedia assist in the process of educating the future teachers?

The multimedia education of prospective teachers should provide informative knowledge and culture that would allow for the appropriate and methodical application and usage of any program in the didactic process. The easier the students can apply and use multimedia, the better and more positive their attitude toward the computer as an attractive learning tool as well as means of utilising, transferring and presenting information.

A computer as a tool for gathering information and multimedia education in the school library

A concept of modern school library - a media centre - was presented. In order for such institution to exist, it must be adequately technically equipped and, what is more important, a highly qualified personnel must exist. One can be hopeful that, due to the significantly lower hardware prices and wider knowledge of information technology, libraries soon will be able to afford their own workshops. The problem then will be how to educate the students in the usage of a PC as a tool for gathering information, not as a toy for playing computer games. Despite the introduction of computers into the libraries much still will depend on librarians - on their experience, creativity, persistence and commitment to implementing their professional goals.
