analysis of
Polish academic libraries
A short-run cost function is applied to 1997 data for 18 academic
libraries in Poland. The stochastic frontier model is employed, which
decomposes the error term into a symmetric around zero random variable
for statistical noise, and a positive random component measuring
economic inefficiency. Using Bayesian techniques, cost efficincy is
estimated to be around 71%.
